This paper examines the widespread resistance of Caesarean Sections by Somali women living in Nairobi, Kenya. The implications of this surgical procedure on reproductive futures illuminate the precariousness of life as a forced migrant, living in a legally ambiguous and politically fraught setting. In a context that emphasises the personal, national, and Islamic responsibility to produce children, I argue that the resistance of Caesareans by women in labour and their families can be seen as a highly gendered strategy for coping with displacement and seeking more prosperous futures elsewhere.
