CALL FOR PAPERS: Advanced workshop for anthropological research on health, medicine and wellbeing

Since 2017, people from Durham and Edinburgh universities have come together to convene an advanced anthropology workshop for research on health, medicine and wellbeing. This annual workshop is designed to provide a supportive environment for postgraduate students to present ongoing and planned research; to explore issues in carrying out and supporting research in health-related topics; to develop plans to improve research training and support for students working on health and wellbeing; and to provide opportunities for networking between staff and students at the two institutions. This year’s event will take place from 11am on 1st April to 3pm on 2nd April.

A key part of the workshop will be presentations by postgraduate students. This can include work in progress, proposed research, or more polished thesis chapters. We invite presentations from students at any stage of the research process, including MA/MSc students, and we encourage students to interpret the terms ‘health’ and ‘medical anthropology’ in the broadest sense.

All of you interested in participating, please send a title and short abstract (max 250 words) no later than February 28th to the Edinburgh organiser, Leah Eades, at leah.eades@ed.ac.uk.

Along with your abstract, please answer the following questions:
As with previous years, a number of Durham students have offered to host us in their spare rooms or sofas. Please let us know if this is something you would like to participate in.
For the past two years, the second day of this event has been allocated to a common activity for all participants – staff and students. We are interested to hear what you would like to see at this year’s event. If you are planning to attend, please complete this short survey (https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/3KM9C8Y), which should not take more than 1 minute to fill in?

Staff and supervisors – please encourage your students to submit abstracts and present at this event!

Best wishes on behalf of the organisers,

Leah Eades
