Alice Street awarded ERC Starter Grant
Alice Street has been awarded a European Research Council Starter Grant to investigate the design and use of point of care diagnostic devices in global health.
Alice Street's ERC project will investigate the design and use of point of care diagnostic devices in global health. The project brings together research on: the overlapping uses of Ebola Virus Disease diagnostic devices for purposes of treatment, surveillance and preparedness in Sierra Leone; the health system integration of new diagnostic tools for infectious disease in South India; and, with public private partnerships, investigating the technical trade-offs involved in meeting commercial and humanitarian expectations for diagnostic tools. Across multiple devices, contexts of design, and deployment, the project examines interactions between humanitarian, security and corporate agendas to ask: can portable diagnostic devices strengthen health systems in resource-poor settings?
