Edinburgh Centre for Medical Anthropology: SoMA: Students of Medical Anthropology

Durham-Edinburgh Advanced Workshop for Anthropological Research on Health, Medicine, and Wellbeing

Hosted by the Anthropology of Health Research Group (Durham) and the Edinburgh Centre for Medical Anthropology (Edinburgh)

Since 2017, people from Durham and Edinburgh universities have come together to convene an advanced anthropology workshop for research on health, medicine and wellbeing. This annual workshop is designed to:

  • Provide a supportive environment for postgraduate students to present ongoing and planned research;
  • Explore issues in carrying out and supporting research in health-related topics;
  • Develop plans to improve research training and support for students working on health and wellbeing;
  • Create opportunities for networking between staff and students at the two institutions.

This year's event will take place at Durham University on 1-2nd April 2019. A full programme and venue details will be available nearer the time.

Our call for papers is now closed. If you are interested in attending without presenting, please contact the Edinburgh organiser, Leah, at
