Leading authors on changing Islam visit Social Anthropology
Two of the most provocative and interesting writers on the Islamic world, Faisal Devji and Marnia Lazreg, will be visiting Social Anthropology this week.
Faisal Devji will be speaking at 4 p.m. on Friday 20th November in Chrystal Macmillan Building Seminar Room 2. His talk is entitled 'The Language of Muslim Universalism'. His book Landscapes of the Jihad was described by the Economist as 'in the best possible sense, subversive.' His new book is called The Terrorist in Search of Humanity: Militant Islam and Global Politics. Marnia Lazreg is well-known for her earlier writing on Algerian women and on torture. She will be speaking at 4 p.m. on Monday 23rd November in Chrystal Macmillan Building Seminar Room 5. Her talk is entitled 'Turning to the Veil' and will draw on her new book Questioning the Veil: Open Letters to Muslim Women.
