2009 - Summary

Anthropology PhDs get world-class training

2009 - PhD students and early career researchers from Social Anthropology have returned from a week in the Highlands, spent with their peers from other Scottish universities, as part of the new Scottish Training in Anthropological Research (STAR) programme. A particular highlight of the week was the opportunity for young researchers to present their own work in a series of master-classes convened by internationally renowned guests. The guests this year included Thomas Eriksen (Oslo), John Borneman (Princeton) and João de Pina Cabral (Lisbon). The STAR programme brings together junior anthropologists from Glasgow, Aberdeen, St Andrews and Edinburgh. It is convened by Jonathan Spencer from the School of Social and Political Science in Edinburgh, with support from the ESRC's Researcher Development Initiative.
